Two years ago, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It was the type of thing you never think could happen to you... it only happens to others. The news, of course, was numbing to say the least! But, I got through my treatment through the grace of God, and the support of my dear family and friends who were there for me always. One of my dearest friends, B.J. Ahern, is a board member at Candy's Place. She introduced me to the programs and services they have to offer.
Even thoough I had such wonderful support during my cancer regime, I personally just felt "alone". I felt I was the only one going through this awful process. As soon as I met the fine folks at Candy's Place, I immediately felt loved and a part of things... it felt like I was "home".
Through meeting other cancer patients and sharing our stories, I felt empowered. I knew I was not alone. I began to volunteer at Candy’s Place when I felt a bit stronger. Candy’s Place gave me the opportunity to “give back” to other cancer patients what had so lovingly been given to me at the time I most needed it.
I am proud to say that I now am a member of Candy’s Place Board of Directors. The work I now am able to do for the organization brings me such fulfillment. I have now come full circle, and am so very proud to be a part of such a marvelous organization filled with friends who genuinely care.
